The British Embassy in Budapest reduced their operational staffing requirements and a smaller Embassy building was required to enable more efficient operation and reduced running costs. The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office purchased the former Dutch Embassy in Budapest, with a view to converting it over to the new British Embassy.
Gilbert-Ash Fit Out was awarded the £3million contract to undertake the design and the fit-out for layout modifications, security upgrade and M&E services upgrade. The works consisted of the strip out of the existing Embassy back to the shell and reconfiguring the internal layout to suit the new office plan and complete replacement of the end of life mechanical and electrical services installation.
Additional project elements included the upgrading of the security rating of the Embassy externally, with the provision of a new guardhouse in the same style copper roof as the main Embassy building. It also included increasing the security of the perimeter of the building, as well as alterations to the external layout of entrances and parking areas to incorporate DDA access.
