Gilbert-Ash wins three Construction Excellence Awards!

11 | October | 2019

It was an excellent night for the Gilbert-Ash team at the Construction Excellence Awards, picking up three accolades across two project entries.

Gilbert-Ash wins three Construction Excellence Awards

The company won the GB & ROI Construction Award above £5 million for its work on the new Sevenoaks School in Kent. The £22 million project included the demolition of two buildings to facilitate the development of a new state-of-the-art Science and Technology Centre, and a Sixth Form Centre with a multi-purpose space to accommodate exams, exhibitions and social gatherings. The school was built to BREEAM Excellent standards. Sevenoaks School builds on Gilbert-Ash’s already extensive portfolio in the education sector. The award was accepted on the night by Aaron Coffey who was Construction Manager on the project.

Gilbert-Ash's Fit Out team won the award for GB & ROI Construction Award below £5 million for The Mayhew Theatre at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. A technically complex building, the project involved constructing a cantilevered hyperbolic paraboloid superstructure in an internal courtyard of one of the highest profile Grade 1 Listed buildings in the country, the FCO's building in Whitehall. The courtyard was 90 metres away from any road access  and 30 metres down inside the building, with only 5 metres of clearance on each side, making it both technically and logistically challenging. The award was accepted on the night by Andrew Whitten, General Manager of Gilbert-Ash Fit Out.

The Fit Out team also won a surprise award on the night for Achieving Excellence in Partnering, for their work on The Mayhew Theatre. There were numerous technical challenges involved in the realisation of this complex project, necessitating a strong partnership approach between all parties involved. The Fit Out team led this process, resulting in the successful delivery of a truly landmark project.

Well done to all the teams involved!
