Award-winning construction and fit-out contractor, Gilbert-Ash, has been named one of the UK’s best places to work for the second consecutive year.
The company, which has played its part in the creation of some of the most iconic buildings in the UK and Ireland, has been included in this year’s Sunday Times Best Places to Work list.
This UK-wide workplace survey recognises and celebrates leading employers across a range of sectors. Gilbert-Ash was also highly commended in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work 55+ category.
The awards are based on responses to questions developed by behavioural scientists, data analysts, psychologists, business leaders and academics, providing an accurate measure of employee engagement, wellbeing and discretionary effort in the workplace.
Gilbert-Ash achieved a high overall engagement score, performing strongly across a six-part framework covering reward and recognition, pride, information sharing, empowerment, wellbeing and job satisfaction.
The results show that 92% of GA’s staff are proud to work for the company while 90% of its people would recommend Gilbert-Ash as an employer to family and friends.
Gilbert-Ash Managing Director Ray Hutchinson said he was proud the company has once again been recognised with such a prestigious honour.
He said: “At Gilbert-Ash, our people are at the heart of everything we do. Their skill, commitment and professionalism are what give clients the confidence to trust us with landmark projects, and that often leads to long-standing relationships built over many years.
“Our ‘As One’ ethos means every voice is valued, and that shared sense of purpose helps us deliver exceptional buildings and outstanding outcomes for our clients.
“To be named in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work once again is a real endorsement of the culture we have built at Gilbert-Ash.
“These results show our people believe we are a supportive, ambitious and rewarding company.
“Being highly commended in the 55+ category also reflects our commitment to supporting our people throughout their entire career, and that is something we are very proud of.”
Gilbert-Ash’s projects have been shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize five times, including the National Portrait Gallery in 2024, the Lyric Theatre in 2012, the Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre in 2013 and Cambridge Central Mosque in 2021, while the Everyman Theatre won the coveted award in 2014.
The company is currently working on several landmark projects, including the construction of a new tech campus in Bristol, a new sports facility at Eton College in Windsor, and major refurbishment works at Tate Liverpool.
Zoe Thomas, editor of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work, said: “In an evolving world of work, Britain’s leading employers are helping staff forge careers that count today and in the future.
“In turn, the Best Places to Work have the resilience to weather the current economic storms, thanks to engaged workers who go above and beyond with a smile.
“The thread that joins all of our winning employers is the belief that a happy workforce is a stepping stone to better performance, faster growth, and bigger profits. More than that, there’s a collective instinct that a contented rank-and-file is a worthwhile business goal in and of itself.”
Gilbert-Ash is currently rolling out its Make Your Mark campaign, designed to attract the best people in the industry. The campaign highlights the calibre of projects the company delivers across a range of sectors and celebrates the achievements of its people.
